Transformative multi-day experiences for youth ages 17-35

In Spring 2022, Howl ran its first youth Exploration for a group of youth from across the country. Over the course of five days, these strangers came together to create a truly unforgettable experience that has shaped what Howl has become today.

Since that time, we have delivered dozens of Exploration programs for hundreds of youth from across Turtle Island. These programs create opportunities for young people to engage with local Elders, Knowledge Holders, artists, researchers and community leaders. In turn, they deepen their understanding of Indigenous Knowledge Systems, climate change, ReconciliACTION, community building and personal resilience.

Get inspired and find your voice by truly connecting to place through land and community-centred learning, all through a relationship-based and Two-Eyed Seeing approach.

Program outcomes

1. ReconciliACTION:
You will develop an increased understanding of colonialism in Canada, and through the lens of your project, you will identify actionable ways to participate in and support methods for community-based reconciliation as young leaders.

2. Community Building:
You will engage with peers, leaders and organizations that understand community needs. You will learn directly from local leaders who work in service of community, demonstrating what it looks like to actively build partnerships with diverse groups through fostering reciprocal relationships.

3. Personal Resilience:
You will have a chance to slow down and reflect on your own journey, identify personal values and strengths that you bring to your community. You will develop strategies for wellness and cultivate resilience of mind, body and spirit, that will enable you to show up more fully for yourself and your community.

4. Climate Action:
Through a two-eyed seeing approach, you will gain an understanding of climate change trends and see how Canadian communities are adapting, taking action and discovering optimism in an uncertain future.

Harvesting Spirit: Rockies Exploration

Custom Howl Explorations for groups

Are you interested in planning a multi-day Howl Exploration with your group? We work with groups to create custom programs around their needs and objectives in all of our program regions (Yukon, Rockies, East Coast, Robson Valley). Get in touch with us to begin planning.

Program itineraries are designed to focus on our four core teachings. There is flexibility for groups to cater program design to their specific needs and interests. Some activities are considered core to Howl programming and are included in all programs; those activities are highlighted below.

Activities can be seasonal and availability will vary. Once you’ve confirmed your group’s attendance, Howl staff will request your activity preferences and build them into a once in a lifetime trip plan! Click here to view a sample itinerary.

Frequently asked questions

  • Our high school programming is divided into two seasons. Programs are based on availability.:

    • Fall (September-October): Bookings must be made by March 31st of the same calendar year.

    • Spring (May - June): Bookings must be made by January 15th of the same calendar year.

    If you miss these booking deadlines and still want to apply we encourage you to reach out. If calendar space allows, we will attempt to add a booking. Bookings can not be made fewer than 4 months prior to the start date of the Program.

    1. Submit a booking inquiry by emailing info@experiencehowl.com. A member of our team will be in touch with you to learn more about your program needs and to answer any questions.

    2. Submit a signed copy of our booking agreement.

    3. Submit a non-refundable deposit of $5,000. If paying this deposit in full presents a barrier to your group’s participation in the program, please contact us directly ahead of the booking deadline.

  • Once your booking is confirmed, we will generate an invoice for the program, less the deposit fee. One half of this amount is due 120 days before the start of the program, the other half is due within 30 days of the Program ending. Groups can choose to pay in full prior to these deadlines. 

    In the event that groups do not pay 50% of their program costs by 120 days prior to the program, their program will be cancelled.
